Meaning
Factory production lines must prove their capability to maintain continuous speed under full capacity conditions without quality failures. This high rate line validation is a test where the system runs at maximum design speed for a set period, such as a full shifts duration. It verifies the structural integrity of the transport belts and the accuracy of the automated sensors.
The boundary of the test is reached when the line runs without human intervention or part jams.
Testing Protocol
Engineers monitor the thermal levels and motor vibrations of the main conveyor belts during the test run. This high rate line validation checks the system’s mechanical limits under continuous load. Handlers document each machine pause or component misalignment that occurs during the cycle.
Any stoppage over five seconds requires a complete reset of the validation timeline.
Throughput Analysis
Production yield is calculated by dividing the total number of non-defective parts produced by the theoretical run capacity. The high rate line validation evaluates if the plant can meet the forecasted run rate over several shifts. If the validated run rate is lower than the supplier’s forecast, the line fails the certification.
Line operators must then adjust their capacity plans downward.
Economic Penalty
Finishing the commissioning process too early can result in chronic mechanical failure during actual customer orders. Scheduling the high rate line validation before the baseline machines are fully run in can permanently damage the conveyor system. The cost of calling this test early is a high rate of scrap parts and costly emergency repairs.
Taking the time to adjust the alignment saves long term operational costs.
