Meaning
Subgrade stabilization techniques utilize the expansion of specialized synthetic resins to fill voids and raise settled concrete slabs-on-ground. Applying high density polyurethane injection restores the uniform support of the floor, preventing the cracking that occurs when heavy vehicles pass over hollow sections. This method is preferred over traditional mudjacking because it cures within minutes and requires very small access holes.
Chemical Expansion
Technicians pump a two-part liquid polymer through small holes drilled directly into the concrete floor. Once mixed below the slab, the components undergo a rapid chemical reaction that creates a dense foam which expands up to twenty times its liquid volume. This expansion force fills all subslab voids and compacts the surrounding soil.
The density of the foam is chosen based on the expected axle loads of the facility.
Slab Levelling
Laser levels monitor the slab surface continuously during the injection process to detect the exact moment of lift. The high expansion pressure exerts a controlled upward force that raises the concrete back to its original datum. This precision is essential for maintaining the flat floor tolerances required by automated guided vehicles.
Structural Benefit
Filling the subslab voids prevents the bending stresses that cause concrete to crack under heavy wheel loads. The cured foam maintains its structural integrity under wet conditions. This material lasts for decades.
