Meaning
A statistical evaluation assesses the amount of variation in a measurement system arising from the measurement device and the operators using it. This analysis, termed a gauge r and r polymer inspection, governs the validation of quality control tests for molded plastic components. The assessment applies to continuous measurement systems and loses validity if the parts being measured are deformed or altered by the testing process.
Variability Source
Operator variation represents the reproducibility of the test while equipment variation represents its repeatability. In polymer testing, the soft nature of the material can cause operators to apply different pressures, leading to divergent readings. Automated measurement fixtures minimize this human influence.
Quality Threshold
High measurement variation makes it impossible to distinguish between a bad part and a bad test. If the testing system consumes too much of the tolerance, it is unacceptable.
Evaluation Method
Quality engineers use a study where multiple operators measure the same group of polymer samples in a random sequence. The resulting data are analyzed using analysis of variance to calculate the proportion of total variation contributed by the measurement system. This analysis ensures that only reliable testing methods are used on the production line.
