Meaning
Prefabricated steel profiles provide permanent edge protection for concrete expansion joints in high-traffic industrial floors. An armor joint is cast directly into the concrete slab during pouring to reinforce the fragile top edges of the joint. This system transfers dynamic wheel loads across the joint while allowing horizontal thermal movement of the slabs.
It prevents the spalling that occurs when heavy forklifts traverse unreinforced joint edges.
Structural Resistance
Heavy-duty steel strips absorb the direct impacts of hard-wheeled vehicles moving at high speeds. When a vehicle crosses a slab boundary, the armor joint prevents the concrete from crumbling under localized shear stresses. This protection extends the operational lifespan of the floor.
Without it, micro-cracks form and expand rapidly under continuous loading.
Load Protection
Structural durability depends on effective load transfer between adjacent concrete sections to prevent differential settlement under heavy loads. The presence of an armor joint, combined with heavy plate dowels, ensures that both slabs share the load of passing vehicles. This prevents joint stepping, which can damage forklift tires and disrupt delicate material handling operations.
In high-throughput warehouses, maintaining flat joint transitions is essential for uninterrupted logistics workflows.
Installation Protocol
Precise elevation alignment during the concrete pour determines the long-term success of the installation. If the armor joint sits too high, it becomes an obstacle for vehicles and undergoes premature wear; if it sits too low, the concrete edges remain unprotected. Installers must secure the joint assembly firmly to the subgrade using adjustable feet, verifying the height with optical levels before the concrete is discharged.
Vibrating the concrete thoroughly around the integrated anchor studs ensures complete consolidation, eliminating the internal air voids that could otherwise compromise the strength of the joint under repetitive heavy traffic.
