Meaning
Final series of formal trials conducted on a new industrial facility to confirm that it performs according to the contract. Plant acceptance testing involves running the facility at full capacity for a specified period to verify output volume, energy efficiency and product quality. Successful completion of these tests marks the transition from the construction phase to the operational phase.
It is the final hurdle before the owner takes full responsibility for the asset and the contractor is paid.
Performance Audit
Measurement of the facility’s capability is done under controlled conditions to ensure the results are fair. The tests must show that the plant can produce goods that meet all the agreed technical standards.
Reliability Run
Duration of the trial is several days or weeks to prove that the system can operate continuously without failure. Short-term bursts of speed are not enough to pass this stage.
Contractual Completion
Certification of these results by an independent engineer is the trigger for the final payment to the builder. Any failures found during this period must be fixed before the test is considered successful. This process confirms that the demonstration rate matches the production yield promised in the original forecast.
Final handover is only granted once all test criteria are satisfied.
