Meaning
A legal and financial document certifies that a specialized mold, die or assembly fixture has been permanently disabled and recycled. This tool destruction certificate is signed by an authorized scrappage agent and the supplier holding the asset to prove the tool is no longer functional, and it cannot be issued for tools being transferred to another supplier. It sits at the end of the tooling lifecycle as the final verification of asset disposal.
Verification Process
The process requires the physical destruction of the tool, typically by cutting it into pieces or melting it down. Photographic evidence of the destroyed mold or die must accompany the document. This evidence prevents the unauthorized use of the tooling after its official retirement.
Financial Writeoff
Purchasing corporations use this document to remove the asset from their balance sheet and write off the remaining book value. Without this certified proof, tax authorities may continue to assess property taxes on the inactive equipment. The document is required to complete the financial lifecycle of the tooling.
Liability Protection
Securing this certificate protects the company from liability if the decommissioned asset is acquired by a third party. It provides a clean legal break at the end of the program.
