Meaning
Thermal control unit used to regulate the temperature of non petroleum based fluids ensures consistent lubrication during high speed metal forming. A synthetic lubricant chiller prevents the fluid from thinning out as it absorbs heat from the friction between the tool and the workpiece. Maintaining a stable temperature is necessary for preserving the chemical properties and the viscosity of the lubricant.
Resistance Stability
Viscosity changes as the temperature of the fluid rises, which can lead to inadequate coverage on the material strip. Since a synthetic lubricant chiller keeps the fluid at a set point, the film strength remains high enough to prevent metal to metal contact. This stability reduces the rate of tool wear and improves the surface finish of the finished components.
Pump Integration
Reservoir setup connects the cooling unit to the spray or roller application system on the press. Because the synthetic lubricant chiller must handle the heat generated by the stamping process, it is sized according to the total flow rate and the expected temperature rise. Monitoring the return line temperature provides an early warning if the cooling capacity is being exceeded by the production speed.
Using Chilled Fluids
Water based or synthetic fluids often require more precise thermal management than traditional oils. While an uncooled system might lead to evaporation and misting, the use of a synthetic lubricant chiller keeps the fluid below the flash point. This approach reduces the load on the factory ventilation system and creates a cleaner working environment for the operators.
Stable fluid temperatures also prevent the additives in the lubricant from separating or becoming less effective. A cool fluid carries heat away from the die more efficiently, supporting higher production speeds without risking damage to the tool surfaces.
